Wordwell is a tiny village about 5 miles north of Bury St Edmunds, it is mentioned in the Doomsday book and was apparently once reasonably
populated. Nowadays however the village is sparse, containing only a couple of houses and a small saxon church that has not been in use for at least
the last 100 years, hence only a small number of photographs. The village allegedly suffered quite badly during the Black Death and a mass grave was
discovered when the church was fitted for electricity some time in the 20th century.
How is Wordwell linked into the tree?
The Bird's lived at Wordwell for many years, for 60 of them at John o'Groats Cottages (see the field trip here).
At least some of the Bird's are buried there too, at All Saints, although the graves are unmarked.
