Apologies for the downtime over the last week or so. For the last 2 years the website has been hosted on a free host. The downside of this is that uptime is poor and support is non-existent. Although for the last 9 months I've actually had my own server that I could have run this off, I've been too busy to move it over - but finally this week I've done it. There should now be a noticeable improvement in speed and availability. :)
Returning users: Find out what's new here
First just a quick note to say thanks to everyone that has sent me feedback; it's
great to know that some of the work I've done is useful to somebody else - so keep that feedback coming.
I get a lot of people coming to my site by searching for Rymer point, even though it's such a small place.
In one case, according to the feedback I received, the information I put up about Rymer helped somebody break down
the "brick wall" in their research so that's great to know!
There's also a lot of people who get here and browse a fair number of pages, but don't leave feedback. Don't be afraid to
ask questions or let us know what you think!
Also, keep an eye out for more field trips in the coming months. After a break over the summer there are some planned
for the coming months!
What's this site all about then?
This website is mostly about my sometimes obsessive and frequently expensive attempts to document my family tree and is the culmination of about 5 years work. Feel free to look around and contact me.
The blurb
Although this website is entitled "Bird Family Tree" there are a lot more surnames that feature here. On the paternal side are the Gooderham family who, much like the Bird family are largely based in Suffolk, the Arbon family who have also been resident in Suffolk, but originate from Germany, the Durrant family who can be traced back to Suffolk and the Hawkins family that go back to Somerset. On the maternal side is the Murdoch family, that includes Dr William Murdoch, a member of the Royal College of Surgeons and appointed, amongst other things, surgeon of the Thames Tunnel Works. Also featuring are ties to the already well documented Leftwich family, who have roots in Cheshire, and also to the Beatson family, again a fairly well documented family.

In order to respect privacy to living persons, access to the full tree itself is private and for family members only, however there is a plain HTML version available to all, although all living members have been stripped from the tree, along with any facts about those people. Notes are also not included in the HTML version. Apart from this the rest of the site is open to everyone and I will be documenting some of my field trips and posting some photographs that other people may find of interest.
